The riddle of the Titanic
On April 14, 1912, four days after leaving Southampton, the Titanic, a 269 meters long giant of the seas, struck an iceberg and was wrecked, killing 1,500 people. How could this reputedly unsinkable liner sink in the icy waters of the Atlantic on its maiden voyage? One hundred years later, scientists are continuing their investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. Among them, Frenchman Paul-Henri Nargeolet was part of one of the first teams to explore the wreckage of the ship, which lies 3,800 meters deep. For twenty-five years, this specialist, now the expedition chief for RMS Titanic, the company that manages the rights to the wreck, has been trying to put the pieces of the puzzle of this maritime disaster together.
